  1. Choose the right earplugs: Standard disposable foam earplugs have the highest attenuation rating (often reaching an NRR of 32–33 dB). Alternatives include silicone Christmas tree earplugs or professional, custom-molded earplugs.

  2. Correct foam application technique: Roll the earplug between your fingers until it forms a tight, narrow cylinder. Then reach behind your head with your other hand, pull your earlobe up and back (this straightens the ear canal). Insert the earplug deeply and hold it with your finger for about 20–30 seconds until the foam expands and completely seals the canal.

  3. Test: If the earplug protrudes significantly from your ear, it is incorrectly inserted and will interfere with earmuffs.
