It allows for an immediate raising of the line of sight, eliminating the so-called "floating chin" and guaranteeing instant acquisition of the aiming point while maintaining full weapon stabilization.

The factory stock line of AK system rifles was designed for low, mechanical sights. Mounting modern optics on the receiver cover, gas tube, or "dovetail" side mount drastically raises the aiming axis.
